Hi! I'm Kathryn
These two pictures were taken twenty-two years apart. The first picture was my son's first day of Kindergarten in 1999. The second picture was my daughter's first day of Kindergarten in 2021.
In 1999, I was naively ignorant. Despite an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences and later a master's in Public Health (no less), I did not grasp the deep connection between diet and wellness. All I knew then was what we were taught--calories in/calories out & "fat" is bad.
Despite a fortune spent at the pediatric dentist for cavities and caps, I did not make the connection between food/drink and optimal health.
Despite a fortune spent at Hattiesburg Clinic Connections for an ADHD-Inattentive diagnosis and treatment for my son, I did not see the connection between food/drink and academic performance.
I served Doritos and soft drinks at parties and was unconcerned about the mountains of junk food that were just part of the landscape of childhood.
I did not know the importance of creating and reinforcing healthy habits. I did not know the importance of creating a culture of health that allows children to flourish and thrive!
~BUT NOW I KNOW~
This is why...
-
I am passionate about childhood nutrition.
-
I am a strong advocate of building and reinforcing healthy habits at school.
-
I spend countless hours studying the latest research.
-
I give great effort to preparing healthy meals and serving nutritious food at parties.
This is why community wellness is so very important to me.
The first time I sent a child to Kindergarten, it wasn’t.
I have been blessed with an opportunity to do things a bit differently and help others with my lessons learned.
